Everything is energy.
How do you experience being and feeling free?
Many of you have heard the expression, “where your attention goes your energy flows”. We use our language to assign meaning to words, and, to describe our experiences. There is power in our thoughts, words and actions.
“What you think, you become,
What you feel, you attract,
What you imagine you create.”– Buddha
In the United States we celebrate July 4th as Independence Day. I smiled when I read this affirmation on my Louise Hay Calendar. “I declare my independence by being free of the past. I am totally present in the glorious now.”
Wow! What if being in the present and being free was that easy?Is that why we are always reminded to be conscious in the present moment?
Let’s be honest. How many times have you rehearsed a conversation in your mind that you just had with someone or were planning to? What about when judgmental thoughts start creeping into your mind when you were listening to a loved one or a colleague at work or the worry about a financial stress you might be experiencing due to an unexpected bill?
Might we notice the worry, regret, betrayal, and injustices that still seems to ticker-tape in our minds? I am confident we can all identify with self-improvement programs, setting intentions and goals, changing, or attempting to change self-defeating behaviors, writing letters and even burning of some!
It has taken me decades to appreciate where I am today. A slogan of the late 60’s comes to my mind. “You’ve come a long way baby!” Some of you might remember and others may be too young. Although that was not the intention of the ad, I liked the message. I am grateful for re-learning, surrendering, forgiving for my old beliefs and ways of thinking that really did not reveal the Truth of who I AM. One of the insights I have embedded into my daily practice today is a knowing that we truly are Spiritual Beings having a Human experience. We are Love.
What about you? What are your thoughts and actions allowing yourself to be and feel freer? Remember, we get to choose where to place our energy and attention
Let’s do a quick general check. Using a 1-10 scale, are you noticing worry and doubts that seem to consume your thinking about the past, later today, or beyond? (1-3 being stuck more in the past than you desire and 9-10 being amazing and delightful). How would you rate yourself?
What do you notice when you rate yourself as it relates to your health? With your family? friends? Your life’s purpose /career/ job? And your time, money, and freedom?
What if I were to remind you that we choose how we respond to all the circumstances in our lives. Yikes! That means if you take responsibility for what your life is looking like, you must let go of the story, all the shaming, complaining and blaming that is zapping your energy! This includes the weather, appearance, traffic, clutter and much more!
What I am noticing helpful for myself and when working with clients is acknowledging when our thoughts are anchored in the past, when we worry about the future, we are really not in the present moment at all. Often, we may say we can’t wait until the circumstance changes, limiting the opportunity to be open to “love it” in that moment.
If you are truthful with yourself…can you see the more present you are in any given moment, the greater sense of being you can experience?
Victor Frankl, holocaust survivor, psychiatrist, and author states, “Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation.”
I have always been so touched by this message. We can get so wrapped up in the drama of our lives that we feel we have to lose ourselves to be accepted, approved of and loved. Yet the core message as humans, we get to choose our thoughts. That is so powerful and for many of us continues to be a game changer in living a life we would love to be living.
Being free is truly an inside job. What is one action you can take today to feel the love and freedom from the inside out?
Did something spark a chord today in what you read? I would love to know how you are nurturing and loving yourself more everyday as you open and invite greater happiness and freedom into your mind, body and spirit.
Enjoy the summer months!
