“The secret to change it to focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”
– Socrates
Living in the Northeast prompts me to awaken and delight in each of the seasons: autumn, winter, spring, and summer. The seasons serve as a beautiful metaphor for change in the context of life and the human experiences of mind, body, and spirit. My favorite is autumn. The trees burst with spectacular, vibrant, and subdued leaves of red, orange, and yellow, with crisper temperatures during the day and night. No matter where you live, we are all part of this universe, connected to the natural rhythm of life.
Are you truly paying attention and living with a deep connection to your inner self, your spirit? What would it look like if you let go of control and the need to know how everything will turn out?
You may find yourself resisting change, new ideas, or activities. Or, you may find yourself being more open and curious about the opportunities that present themselves when we stop long enough to allow them to unfold.
Being open to change with less resistance allows for an easier flow in life. Sometimes, when we walk on uneven ground, we are more deliberate in taking our steps, more aware of our intentions. Other times, when we walk through life unconsciously, not paying attention, we may be surprised by an unexpected fall, potentially bruising or even breaking a bone in the process. But when we trust that we are never alone, that Spirit is always with us, we can embrace life more easily and effortlessly—just like dancing in the wind!
Bob Proctor, a well-known business coach and trainer, always said, “The one thing we are guaranteed is change, but personal growth is a choice.”
Are you ready to let go of your old patterns of fear, doubt, and the need to know everything before you act? How are you embracing the changes occurring in your life?
Just as the moon has phases, we all experience energetic patterns that ebb and flow. Currently, I have the honor of training with Dr. Sue Morter, author of The Energy Codes. Dr. Morter refers to a process called the “Cycle of Life,” which we all experience, and which is ongoing and cyclical. This model has been helpful to me as I find myself in what some may call a void—not knowing, yet remaining open to the unknown and full of possibilities. Taking small actions opens me to creating, choosing, and trusting that things will unfold in Divine timing. This results in a sense of freedom and delight as I navigate uncharted waters.
Let me know how you are navigating the changes in your life. Release the struggle, and embrace the love and unfolding possibilities.
Looking for more resources to support your journey toward greater freedom and joy? Here are some questions from Chapter 20, Dance with the Winds of Change, in my book The Art of Being Nice: Own Your Voice for Greater Fulfillment. You may want to keep a journal of your responses:
- As you look at making changes in your life, what is one thing you can do to make the change easier?
- Do you find yourself forcing things to get them done, even in situations that you cannot control? How will changing your perception of the situation impact the outcome?
- If you could change one area of your life, what would it be, and what action would you take?
- What if you could surrender to not knowing?
Listen to your heart and soul. You are loved.
