Shifting Sands

“You are so much more than you ever could imagine. Everything that has happened in your life until now has been moving you toward awakening your true nature.” – Dr. Sue Morter

This summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to spend time at the ocean. Standing at the water’s edge, I felt the waves crashing across the tops of my toes and feet. Almost simultaneously, I sensed the sand shifting and pulling at my heels. I found myself wondering… how does this feeling show up in other areas of my life?

How might the shifting of the sand beneath your feet represent aspects of your own life?

We often set expectations, and then things shift. Notice how you respond. Do you get thrown off, angry, disappointed, or taken by surprise? Or are you able to respond without judgment—feeling open, curious, allowing others not to trigger you, and even grateful when you choose to go with the flow?

Since moving, I have noticed many shifts—new circumstances, new community, new environment, and new expectations. For example, longtime doctors, dentists, and other professionals have retired, leaving me to start over again. I trust I will be guided to the right individuals. You may find yourself in this situation now or sometime in the future.

Instead of fretting, what if you remained open to the possibility that this is happening for you?

Everywhere I go—what I read, what I hear in conversations—the mantra seems to be the same: “I need to take better care of myself.” Some of you have been pioneers, focused on health and wellness for years. Others may just now be noticing your attention shifting—like the sand beneath your feet.

Are you noticing that “things” are shifting on so many levels?

We know our thoughts become things, and where we put our attention, our energy goes. Research shows that as humans we are wired with a programmed protective personality, full of judgments and negative patterned responses. These mental patterns of vibrational energy reveal that our thoughts impact not only our physical health, but also our relationship with our mind and soul.

What About the Soul?

When we drop from our mind into our heart and soul, we soften.

Your soul has been craving attention… are you listening?

How does it feel when you allow yourself to be still? What do you notice? Initially, you may say: “My mind is so busy and never stops,” “I don’t have time,” or “This is too woo-woo.” That’s simply your mind speaking. Instead, allow your energy to drop down into the area of your heart and soul. Even placing a hand on your heart can help anchor you into your body.

It’s time to administer some CPR to the Soul!

What about giving your soul the same renewal and reigniting you would give your heart? The best news: you don’t have to be in distress or panic. No one is doing this to you. It is an inside job—a sacred relationship with your Divine self. You are responsible for how you choose to nurture, treasure, cherish, and embrace the inner spirit of love. This is your essence.

Take baby steps and be patient with yourself. You are worthy and you deserve to experience greater inner joy and happiness. Below are a few practices I’ve begun incorporating into my morning routine. These can also be done in the evening, but I prefer setting intentions at the start of the day to allow energy to flow with ease and grace.

  • Body Scan & Breathwork: While lying in bed, scan your body for any areas that feel constricted. Take a deep breath and release. Then take another breath from the top of your head down to the soles of your feet. Repeat this channel breath, up and down, embracing the energy of your loving breath into those areas.
  • Stillness Practice: Allow yourself to be in stillness. Begin with just a few minutes, eventually working up to more. This might mean sitting in a designated quiet place. Before reaching for your cell phone, computer, or remote, close your eyes. Go inside your body. Pause consciously, breathe, and notice.
  • Gratitude Practice: Focus on what is working in your life. Embrace at least three things for which you are grateful. Remember, abundance is energy—a vibration composed of gratitude and love.
  • Soul Questions: Ask your soul loving questions such as, “How does being my authentic self feel today?” “What is mine to do?” “How can I be in loving service?”
  • Intention Setting: Consciously set a loving intention for your day.
