Have you ever noticed that summertime brings up more feelings of possibility, freedom and excitement?
Living in the northern hemisphere, we are exposed to more hours of sunlight each day. That impulse to stay at home, warm and cozy that you may have felt in the colder, darker months totally changes. Now you may notice having more energy, being more spontaneous, feeling greater appreciation for the beauty of nature, exploration, and adventure!
As a child, I remembered summertime offered much less structure than the traditional school day and year. Some of us experienced more opportunities to visit extended family, going on vacations or, going to day camp for a few weeks or even to an overnight camp. Do certain foods come to mind? Stopping for ice cream? Spitting out watermelon seeds in the grass when no one was looking? What brings a smile to your face as you remember those days many years ago?
Fast forward to your life today. Imagine being a loving compassionate artist with a blank canvas. What might you create this summer for you to feel more joy, happiness and fulfillment for yourself and or with others?
This is the first summer in over two years that we have not had the same level of restriction around travel, outside events, family gatherings and so much more!
Be in gratitude!
In those quiet moments when you are looking out your window daydreaming or looking at a beautiful sunset, or watching your grandchildren playing or being in your garden…
Ask yourself, “What would I love to do? Where would I love to visit? What would bring more joy and happiness to my heart?”
Allow yourself to dream! Put your hand on your heart and ask yourself, “What would I love?” Your answers are not like lightning bolts booming from the heavens, they become the subtle quiet messages you may hear when you are walking, driving, doing the dishes or even petting your animal.
What if you could have that dream?
Now, some of you may be saying “I don’t know how to dream.”
I promise you, we all can imagine. Every day we hear information and images and thoughts come to our minds. If I were to say, “imagine a purple door or pink elephant” you all imagined something.
The secret is…a dream starts with something we imagine. It doesn’t have to be hard, big, or fabulous. That is an old belief that you have been carrying around and telling yourself. Let go of that old story!
Now, let’s have some fun! Are you willing to play?
After all, isn’t this summertime and you are feeling more playful, and open to greater possibilities and excitement? Take a blank page in your notebook, and at the top place the title, “What would I love?”
I will share an easy one that came to me while I was writing:
“To expand my beautiful flower garden with more perennials. I could buy more perennials this year. This would give me more joy and pleasure.”
What is at the top of your page?
I offer all of us one not as easy, yet we all contribute.
To live in greater peace in the world and to feel more peace in my heart.
This starts with our own thoughts and energy that we hold. Your thoughts that you tell yourself and others do make a difference.
